RAB SCUBA
Costa Rica: San Jose, Limon & Quepos
Trip Report: 12 - 22, June 2004
I had been blessed with the ability to venture out to Costa Rica on a missions trip. My church, Liberty Baptist Church, and several of its members lead and served on this trip. This was my first missions trip and I was glad I went. No diving, so if you traveled to this web page looking for diving discussion, pick another report. If you would like to read about service to other believers and the lost please read on.
We drove by church bus to Orlando. This was the hottest part of the whole trip. I don't think the A/C had any coolant. It sure blew out hot air. Mind you we were traveling south. Ah!!! But that other dimension. We loaded up 70 bags of missions supplies (shirts, ties, toiletries, tracts, bibles, puppets, etc.). As always, I got on board and promptly fell asleep. I did get some reading in. Obviously, the flight and change-over was uneventful. The pilot did have to go around in San Jose because of fog. Apparently, a frequent event.
Once in San Jose we were met by a missionary, a bus and a prayer. Somehow, I can't explain it, everyone and every bag made it on the bus and an SUV. A pretty safe, but none-the-less interesting ride to the hotel. One more time to unload, or so I thought.
Lodging:
We stayed at the "Apartotel Sesteo" on the southeast side of San Jose. It was near the major town square (old airfield). It turned out to be really central to everything we did. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Two guests that I spoke with were from the US and had retired to San Jose. One was in the merchant marines and the other did something with computers.
Churches:
While in Costa Rica we assisted three churches. Some attended services and gave our testimony, others conducted children's bible study and still others lead adult bible study. Templo Bautista de Tibas
Iglesia Biblica Bautista
Primeria Iglesia Bautista Jerusalen
Food & Land Entertainment:
Ate at the hotel many times and the food was good. The rice and beans were especially plentiful.
Cuban sandwiches,
La Paz Waterfall Gardens
Sun Burst Coffee
My aunt had received some Costa Rican coffee from Meeks, so one day we tracked down the maker and got a good education on on the coffee bean process
Parque Nacional Volcan Poas
We climbed to the volcano rim
Deepsea Fishing
The charter that Chuch arranged was excellent. The picked up at the hotel @ five am. Took an amazing drive to the Pacific coast. God made some magnificant mountains, waterfalls, beaches, and on and on. We crossed several bridges that were, literally, the width of the Mercedes mini-van and no wider. The driver told us that tractor-trailers traveled across these bridges all the time. Saw many aligators in the rivers, I prayed the bridge would hold.
On the Carribean side the fields were full of pineapple. Lots of construction going on.
Shopping
I pray that, if it is God's will, I can work on other missions trip (samaira). If you would like to here the good news, let me know.
